Rove breaks ground on 2nd ‘full-service’ EV charger, this time in Costa Mesa, CA

Rove, a company dedicated to enhancing the EV charging experience by creating “full service” EV charging centers with access to amenities while charging, has recently started construction on its second charging center. This new center is expected to open in October/November of this year.

The first Rove charging center opened last October, offering 40 DC charging stalls with a mix of V4 NACS/Tesla Superchargers and CCS chargers. The site also includes amenities like air for tires, a car vacuum, windshield cleaner stations, shaded areas with solar panels, and even trash cans. Additionally, there is a 24/7 lounge on site with security, clean bathrooms, seating areas, and wifi. Rove has partnered with Gelson’s, a SoCal grocery chain, to provide a grocery store experience at the charging center.

The new charging center in Costa Mesa will feature a similar setup to the Santa Ana site, with a focus on providing a range of amenities for EV drivers. The location will include solar and battery storage, but will not have a car wash or dog area like the Santa Ana site. The Costa Mesa site is expected to open around October/November and is situated on Harbor Blvd, making it easily accessible from several freeways.

Rove has plans to open additional charging sites in Southern California, with locations identified in Corona, Torrance, and Long Beach. Each site will offer slightly different amenities tailored to the local community and will open gradually over the coming years.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Costa Mesa site was attended by Rove CEO Bill Reid, representatives from Gelson’s, and city officials. The construction progress is moving quickly, with the building already up and expected to open ahead of schedule.

Overall, Rove’s approach to EV charging centers is commendable, providing a range of services and amenities to enhance the charging experience for EV drivers. By offering a one-stop-shop for charging, amenities, and even shopping, Rove is setting a high standard for the EV charging industry.
