Nio’s sub-brand Onvo is gearing up to launch its flagship electric SUV, the L90, with pre-sales set to begin next month. The company’s president, Shen Fei, made the announcement, stating that display vehicles will be available at all Onvo stores in early July.

This marks the first model to be launched under Shen Fei’s leadership since he took over from Alan Ai in April. The L90 is positioned as a flagship SUV with a spacious three-row interior, offering ample space for passengers and luggage. Leveraging Nio’s expertise in electric vehicles and its extensive charging and battery swap network, the L90 promises an authentic design and efficient performance.

The L90 features a powerful 440 kW all-wheel-drive system, ensuring a smooth and confident driving experience. Nio Power operates battery swap stations at regular intervals on China’s highways, providing fast and convenient charging equivalent to 20C. The company aims to cater to family-oriented vehicle needs with its SUV lineup, with the L90 being the latest addition to its offerings.

In a similar vein, Xiaomi’s EV unit recently announced the launch of the YU7 SUV, set to compete with the likes of Tesla’s Model Y in the Chinese market. The YU7 is expected to set a pricing benchmark for mid-to-high-end SUVs in China, potentially influencing pricing strategies for other manufacturers.

Onvo’s focus on SUV models aligns with the growing demand for spacious and versatile vehicles in the market. The L90 is scheduled to officially launch in the third quarter, with the L80 set to follow in the fourth quarter. A recent regulatory filing hinted that the L80 will be a five-seat version of the L90, catering to a wider range of customer preferences.

With battery packs ranging from 60.6 kWh to 85.1 kWh, the L90 offers an impressive CLTC range of 425-605 km in its single-motor version. As the EV market in China continues to evolve, Onvo’s strategic approach to offering innovative and family-friendly SUVs positions the brand for success in the competitive landscape.
