Nio’s sub-brand, Firefly, has recently rolled out a new Battery as a Service (BaaS) car purchase plan in China, aimed at making electric vehicles more accessible to consumers. This initiative is part of Firefly’s strategy to drive sales and increase market penetration.

Under the BaaS plan, the starting price of the Firefly EV has been significantly reduced to RMB 79,800 ($11,120), representing a substantial drop of over 30 percent from the original price that included the battery pack. This move is expected to make electric vehicles more affordable and attractive to a wider range of customers.

Specifically, the entry-level variant of the Firefly EV now starts at RMB 79,800, down from RMB 119,800, marking a 33.39 percent decrease. Similarly, the price of a higher-priced variant has been slashed from RMB 125,800 to RMB 85,800, a reduction of 31.80 percent.

Customers opting for the BaaS scheme will be required to pay a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399. Firefly is also running a promotional offer for customers who purchase vehicles by June 30, where each payment made towards the BaaS bill within three years will result in the next installment being waived.

The introduction of the BaaS car purchase plan underscores Firefly’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions in the electric vehicle market. By offering a more affordable pricing structure and flexible payment options, Firefly aims to attract more customers and drive adoption of electric vehicles in China.

In a related development, two Firefly product managers have embarked on a 15-day European road test from Berlin, Germany, covering seven countries including Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy, and Austria. This initiative is part of Firefly’s preparations for its market entry in Europe, showcasing the brand’s global expansion efforts and commitment to delivering high-quality electric vehicles to customers worldwide.
