The Eurobike 2025 event saw the debut of an innovative electric hub motor that has the potential to revolutionize the premium urban e-bike market. Developed in collaboration between Moving Magnet Technologies (MMT), Sonceboz, and eBikeLabs, this new motor boasts impressive features despite its compact size.

With a torque rating of up to 70 Nm, regenerative braking capabilities, and a 22:1 gear ratio, this motor offers a high-performance experience for urban riders. What sets it apart is its built-in torque sensor, which provides a more natural and responsive pedaling feel. Surprisingly, the motor weighs under 2.5 kg, making it one of the lightest high-torque hub motors in its class.

Designed specifically for single-speed e-bikes and fully integrated with eBikeLabs’ eBikeOS software platform, this motor is ideal for manufacturers looking to create sleek and minimalist city e-bikes. The system includes features like regenerative braking, anti-theft immobilization, and smart ride customization, all in a compact form factor.

Sonceboz, known for its zero-defect manufacturing in the automotive industry, is leading the industrialization process at its Swiss production facilities. The motor is currently undergoing B-sample testing with a premium urban bike brand, with plans for commercial availability in early 2027.

The collaboration between MMT, Sonceboz, and eBikeLabs brings together motor design expertise, industrial capabilities, and advanced software integration. The eBikeOS software adds real-time diagnostics, theft alerts, ride tracking, and personalized performance tuning, along with a modular SP Connect mount for phones for seamless app integration during rides.

eBikeLabs has already made waves in the high-end e-bike market with their software powering motors for brands like Shwette, Cowboy, and Vefaa. The new hub motor represents a tighter integration of hardware and software, setting a new standard for premium city e-bikes.

If the initial specs hold up and the industrial ramp-up proceeds smoothly, this motor could become a game-changer in the premium e-bike segment. With its anti-theft features, seamless app integration, and impressive torque in a compact package, it promises to deliver a magical riding experience.

For those attending Eurobike, the motor is on display at two locations in Hall 8, Booth I21 (with Sonceboz) and Hall 12.1, Booth A21 (with eBikeLabs). It’s definitely worth checking out for a closer look at the future of urban e-bike technology.
