Chinese state-owned automaker GAC Group has officially launched its new vehicle assembly plant in Indonesia, operated by its local distributor PT Indomobil Group. The GAC Indonesia Smart Factory, situated just outside Jakarta, boasts an initial production capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year, with the potential to increase to 50,000 units annually based on market demand.

This strategic move follows an investment by Indomobil Group through its subsidiary, PT National Assemblers (NA). The completion of the facility comes approximately a year after GAC introduced its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in Indonesia, the Aion Y Plus.

In Indonesia, GAC Aion currently offers the Aion Y Plus, Aion V, and Hyptec HT models, all of which were previously imported from China but will now be produced locally. The company managed to sell a total of 1,845 units in Indonesia in the first five months of 2025.

During the inauguration ceremony of the plant, GAC reaffirmed its commitment to the Indonesian market with its “come to Indonesia, for Indonesia” ethos, aligning with the GAC 2.0 global strategy focused on advancing a sustainable automotive industry.

Wei Haigang, President of GAC International, emphasized the significance of Indonesia as a key market in GAC’s global expansion plans. He stated, “With the inauguration of PT National Assemblers’ assembly plant, we aim to enhance our contribution to economic growth, industrial quality enhancement, and sustainable mobility transformation in Indonesia.”

In addition to the plant inauguration, nominations are currently open for the prestigious Just Auto Excellence Awards, which recognize innovation, leadership, and impact in the industry. This is an opportunity for companies to showcase their achievements, highlight industry advancements, and gain global recognition. Don’t miss the chance to be honored among the best – submit your nomination for the Excellence Awards today.
