Renault Symbioz Review 2025, Price & Specs

The updated Symbioz hybrid system now boasts a more powerful 158bhp full-hybrid system, providing better performance than its previous iteration. With a 0-62mph time of 9.1 seconds, there is a noticeable improvement in overall performance and acceleration. While it may not be aggressively fast, it now competes well with models like the Qashqai or Niro hybrid.

The powertrain is designed for ease of use, with no manual gear-shifting option available. This simplicity may appeal to drivers who prefer a hassle-free driving experience. The engine remains quiet and smooth, with seamless transitions between electric and combustion power. The brakes are progressive and easy to modulate, adding to the overall comfort of the driving experience.

Despite the increase in power, the Symbioz hybrid system produces less CO2 emissions at 97g/km, resulting in a 25% benefit-in-kind tax rating. The unit is paired with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery, allowing for longer periods of electric-only driving. This not only reduces fuel consumption but also makes for a quieter and more economical ride, especially at lower speeds.

For those who prefer a manual gearbox, the Symbioz is also available as a mild hybrid with a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a gearbox-mounted electric motor. This version offers a combined 138bhp and provides a refined driving experience with adequate power for most situations. However, the full hybrid variant is recommended for heavier loads, as the extra power will ensure better fuel economy.

The mild hybrid variant features a six-speed manual gearbox with a slightly vague shift action but an intuitive clutch pedal. While the gear changes may not be as precise as some drivers prefer, the overall driving experience is still enjoyable and easy to get used to.

Overall, the Symbioz hybrid system offers improved performance, reduced emissions, and a more comfortable driving experience compared to its predecessor. Whether you prefer the simplicity of a full hybrid or the control of a mild hybrid, the Symbioz has something to offer for a variety of drivers.
