China’s Xiaomi Corporation recently unveiled its highly anticipated YU7, marking the company’s entry into the electric vehicle market. The launch of the YU7, Xiaomi’s first battery-powered SUV model, created quite a buzz in the industry with over 200,000 confirmed orders received within just an hour of its release. This success highlights the growing competition in China’s electric vehicle market.
The YU7 is positioned as a high-performance, luxury SUV and directly competes with the popular Tesla Model Y. It comes in three main variants: the YU7 Standard ultra-long-range RWD priced at CNY 253,500 (US$ 35,500), the YU7 Pro ultra-long-range AWD version priced at CNY 279,900 (US$ 39,000), and the YU7 Max ultra-long-range high-performance AWD version priced at CNY 329,900 (US$ 46,000).
One of the standout features of the YU7 is the Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display, a cutting-edge technology that utilizes triple Mini LED screens to project essential information onto the lower windshield area. This display is between 2 to 3 times more expensive than a standard head-up display system but offers a seamless and comprehensive view for the driver.
Powering the YU7 range is the upgraded Xiaomi HyperEngine V6s Plus electric drive system, boasting impressive performance metrics like a maximum power output of 690 PS, a top speed of 253 km/h, and acceleration from 0–100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds for the YU7 Max variant. The Standard RWD model offers a range of 835 km for urban commuting or 1,000 km for long-distance travel on a single charge, thanks to a choice of lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium batteries.
In terms of safety and technology, the YU7 is equipped with advanced assisted driving hardware, including the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor™ chip, LiDAR, 4D millimeter-wave radar, high-definition cameras, and ultrasonic radars. The vehicle also features anti-glare cameras with ALD coating technology to reduce glare and interference while driving.
Overall, Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle market with the YU7 demonstrates the company’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement. With its impressive features, performance, and design, the YU7 is set to make a significant impact in the competitive landscape of electric SUVs.
