BYD Launches BYD M9 MPV in Mexico

BYD, a leading Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) maker, has recently introduced its Xia MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) in Mexico, rebranding it as the BYD M9. This move marks BYD’s foray into the Mexican market with its first hybrid MPV, showcasing the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in South America.

The BYD M9 is offered in one variant in Mexico, with a starting price of 979,800 Mexican pesos (approximately $52,180). This hybrid MPV boasts an NEDC battery range of 95 kilometers and a combined NEDC range of 945 kilometers when fully fueled and charged, making it a practical and efficient choice for environmentally-conscious consumers.

Ray Zou, the country manager of BYD’s Mexico subsidiary, emphasized the strategic significance of introducing the Xia MPV in Mexico’s premium NEV market. This move aligns with BYD’s vision to offer innovative and sustainable mobility solutions to customers in Mexico and beyond.

The BYD Xia was originally launched in China on January 8, showcasing BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid technology. This three-row, seven-seat MPV features dimensions of 5,145 mm in length, 1,970 mm in width, and 1,805 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,045 mm. In China, the Xia is available in four variants with varying price points to cater to different consumer preferences.

In June, BYD achieved a milestone by selling 382,585 NEVs, marking the highest monthly sales figure of the year. The Xia MPV contributed significantly to this success by selling 5,018 units in June alone, bringing the total cumulative sales to 47,785 units. Additionally, BYD experienced a substantial increase in overseas vehicle sales in June, reflecting the company’s growing global presence.

Despite its success in Mexico and other international markets, BYD recently announced the suspension of its plans to build a major factory in Mexico due to geopolitical tensions and uncertainty surrounding US trade policies. This decision underscores the challenges faced by global automakers in navigating complex geopolitical landscapes.

As BYD continues to innovate and expand its product portfolio, the introduction of the BYD M9 MPV in Mexico represents a significant milestone in the company’s journey towards sustainable mobility solutions. With its cutting-edge technology and commitment to environmental stewardship, BYD remains a key player in the global NEV market.
