Xpeng has officially started delivering its highly anticipated G7 model, marking a significant milestone for the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker. The G7, which is the first model to feature Xpeng’s in-house Turing AI smart driving chip, went on sale on July 4 and has already garnered immense popularity.
According to reports, the G7 received an overwhelming 10,000 firm orders within the first nine minutes of its launch, highlighting the strong demand for Xpeng’s latest offering. The deliveries of the G7 have now commenced, with He Xiaopeng, chairman, and CEO of Xpeng, personally handing over vehicles to some lucky owners in Shanghai.
The launch of the G7 has created quite a buzz in the market, especially in Shanghai, where the orders for the G7 have surpassed those of its competitor Tesla Model Y. In fact, 70 percent to 80 percent of the orders in Shanghai are for the top-tier variant of the G7, indicating a high level of interest in Xpeng’s new SUV.
The G7 comes in three variants – 602 Max, 702 Max, and 702 Ultra – with prices starting at RMB 195,800 ($27,300). These prices are notably lower than the Model Y, Tesla’s offering in China, which starts at RMB 263,500. The G7 boasts impressive dimensions, with a length of 4,892 mm, width of 1,925 mm, and height of 1,655 mm, making it larger than the Model Y.
One of the key highlights of the G7 is the inclusion of Xpeng’s in-house developed Turing AI driving chip, which offers up to 2,250 TOPS of computing power. This makes the G7 the EV model with the highest smart driving computing power in the market. Xpeng aims to achieve annual sales of around 100,000 units for the G7, with projections to deliver 55,000 units in the second half of 2025.
In June, Xpeng delivered a total of 34,611 vehicles, bringing the first-half delivery total to 197,189 units, a remarkable increase of 279.01 percent year-on-year. The company aims to double its delivery volume this year compared to 2024, showcasing its strong growth trajectory in the EV market.
With its competitive pricing, advanced features, and strong demand, the Xpeng G7 is poised to be a formidable competitor to the Tesla Model Y and a key player in the rapidly evolving EV landscape.($1 = RMB 7.1734)
