This is the fun electric moped Harley‑Davidson designed and almost built

Harley-Davidson’s shelved electric scooter concept was a missed opportunity in the burgeoning market of light electric vehicles. The concept, first introduced in 2018, generated excitement with its sleek design, removable battery, and city-friendly features. Despite positive reception, the project was put on hold, leaving a gap in the market for a stylish and practical electric moped.

The design of the electric scooter went through various stages of development, with Harley submitting multiple EU design patents by 2020. The refined styling and innovative features showcased the company’s progress towards a production-ready vehicle. However, the project was overshadowed by the spin-off of LiveWire as a separate electric motorcycle brand and disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to shelve the electric scooter concept seems like a missed opportunity, especially in today’s growing market for light electric vehicles. With the increasing demand for nimble, street-legal electric two-wheelers, a branded electric moped from Harley or LiveWire could have been a game-changer. The younger demographic, in particular, is drawn to affordable, practical, and urban-friendly electric vehicles.

Looking back, it’s clear that Harley had the right idea with the electric scooter concept. The market was ready, the design was promising, and the timing was ideal. Revisiting the concept or letting a new player take up the torch could lead to a successful entry into the electric mobility space. The potential for a branded electric moped with modern features, accessories, and affordability is still there, waiting to be explored.

Ultimately, the shelved electric scooter concept from Harley-Davidson serves as a reminder of what could have been. With the right approach and timing, a LiveWire-branded electric moped could still make waves in the market, offering a stylish, practical, and affordable option for urban commuters and young riders. It’s a vision worth revisiting and a future waiting to be realized.
