The highly exclusive Renault 5 Turbo 3E is already sold out until 2028, with just half of the build run remaining to be allocated. This hyper-hatchback, boasting an impressive 533bhp, pays homage to the original Renault 5 Turbo with its electric powertrain, unique styling, and exceptional performance capabilities.
With only 1980 units planned for production, a nod to the launch year of the original car, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E has already seen the first 1000 units reserved. The remaining cars, now priced at £140k, are slightly higher than the initial launch price of £135k.
Project leader Michael Grosjean revealed that the company is currently at half of the total volume, with reservations now being accepted for delivery in 2028. The first prototypes are already in production, and customer deliveries are set to begin next year. The Renault 5 Turbo 3E has attracted a diverse range of buyers, all sharing a passion for high-performance and unique vehicles.
Although the production of the 3E is set to end in 2029, there are no immediate plans for similar extreme limited editions. However, Grosjean hinted that other models in the lineup could potentially be celebrated in a similar fashion. For instance, a Dakar Rally-themed version of the Renault 4 electric crossover could be a possibility in the future.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is based on the retro-styled Renault 5 electric supermini but features a bespoke platform, its own bodywork, and in-wheel motors. This setup allows the 3E to produce an impressive 3540 lb ft of wheel torque, resulting in exceptional performance figures such as a sub-3.5 second 0-62mph time and a track-only top speed of 168mph.
Overall, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is a unique and exclusive offering from Renault, blending heritage with modern technology and performance. With its limited production run and high demand, it is set to be a sought-after collector’s item in the years to come.
