Autoliv Makes Strides in China with New Factory in Hefei City

Autoliv, a leading automotive safety supplier, celebrated a significant milestone on June 12, 2024, with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new factory in the Economic Development Zone of Feixi County, Hefei city. This marks Autoliv’s first industrial presence in Hefei, showcasing the company’s dedication to expanding its footprint in the Chinese market.

The new facility will specialize in the production of steering wheels, with a projected annual output of 4 million units once fully operational. Fabien Dumont, Vice President of the China Technical Center at Autoliv, expressed his enthusiasm for the project during the ceremony, emphasizing the strategic importance of establishing the factory in Hefei. Dumont highlighted the city’s status as a key automotive industry hub in China and praised its comprehensive industrial chain and favorable business environment.

The factory will occupy a total area of 50,000 square meters, with the initial phase covering 20,000 square meters and set to be completed by 2025. Equipped with state-of-the-art production technology and processes, the facility will handle all aspects of steering wheel manufacturing, from foaming and injection molding to leather stitching and assembly. Autoliv plans to implement a digital management system to create an intelligent, environmentally friendly factory that ensures consistent high-quality production output.

The company’s commitment to the project was evident in the swift progress from the initial agreement with local authorities in March to the groundbreaking ceremony in June. Dumont highlighted the efficiency and effectiveness of the collaboration with the government and expressed confidence in the factory’s ability to meet the growing market demand in China.

With its focus on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, Autoliv’s new factory in Hefei is poised to set new benchmarks in steering wheel production and strengthen the company’s position as a key player in the automotive safety sector.
