The new Chevy Bolt EV is coming soon with some big upgrades

Chevy is making a comeback with the highly anticipated new Chevy Bolt EV. Expected to launch later this year, the new model promises to deliver over 300 miles of driving range, faster charging capabilities, and an overall improved ownership experience.

After ending production of the iconic electric hatch in late 2023, GM CEO Mary Barra assured fans that a new and improved Bolt EV was on the horizon. The upcoming model will be built on GM’s Ultium platform, which powers a range of electric vehicles from Chevy, Cadillac, GMC, and Honda in the US. This platform will offer longer driving ranges and faster charging speeds, thanks to the use of LFP batteries to reduce costs.

Despite the common belief that LFP batteries offer less range than NMC batteries, the new Bolt EV is expected to exceed 300 miles on a single charge. This is a significant improvement from the outgoing model, which offered up to 259 miles of range from a 65 kWh battery pack. GM’s president, Mark Reuss, also confirmed that the new Bolt will be part of a family of Bolt models, including a more affordable variant.

GM recently announced plans to invest $4 billion in ramping up US production, with a new “next-gen affordable EV” in the works. This model will be manufactured in Kansas alongside the new Chevy Bolt EV, although it’s unclear if it will be part of the Bolt family.

The new Bolt EV has been spotted testing and appears to have a more crossover-SUV look, similar to the Trax. Reports suggest that GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway technology will be available on the upcoming model, a feature previously only offered on the larger EUV model.

Production is set to begin later this year, with the new Chevy Bolt EV expected to hit the market in mid-2026. While prices and final specifications are yet to be confirmed, it’s likely that the new model will start at a slightly higher price than the outgoing model, given the upgrades.

In the meantime, Chevy’s affordable Equinox EV has been a hit, becoming the fastest-growing EV brand in the US. Starting at under $35,000 and eligible for the $7,500 EV tax credit, the Equinox EV is a popular choice among buyers. With leases starting at just $289 per month, GM expects the Equinox EV to be among the top-selling EVs by the end of 2025.
