Huawei-backed Maextro S800 luxury sedan secures over 8,000 orders 50 days after launch

Huawei and JAC have collaborated to develop the Maextro S800 luxury sedan, with a starting price of RMB 708,000 ($98,600). The highest-priced variant of this vehicle will be affected by China’s latest luxury car consumption tax.

The Maextro S800 has garnered significant attention, with over 8,000 firm orders received just 50 days after its launch. This impressive performance was announced by Huawei’s HIMA business on its mobile app. The S800, part of the Maextro brand jointly created by Huawei and JAC, entered the luxury car market on May 30.

Offering both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) options, the Maextro S800 comes in four-seat and five-seat versions. The sedan has two BEV variants, with the five-seat model starting at RMB 708,000 and the four-seat version at RMB 818,000. Additionally, there are four EREV variants available, with prices ranging from RMB 708,000 to RMB 1,018,000.

The Maextro S800’s impressive order numbers reflect its strong initial acceptance in the market. Leveraging Huawei’s influence, the model has achieved remarkable milestones in terms of order figures since its launch. Maextro is positioned as the top-tier brand under the Huawei HIMA umbrella, which also includes renowned brands like Stelato, Aito, Luxeed, and Shangjie.

Measuring 5,480 mm in length, 2,000 mm in width, and 1,536 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm, the Maextro S800 boasts a spacious and luxurious design. However, the recent expansion of China’s luxury vehicle consumption tax to include lower-priced models and pure electric vehicles will impact the highest-priced variant of the S800.

With the new tax regulations coming into effect on July 20, luxury vehicles with a VAT tax-inclusive price exceeding RMB 1,017,000 will be subject to consumption tax. This adjustment in the threshold will affect the pricing of the top-tier variant of the Maextro S800.

As Maextro continues to develop its product lineup, JAC has indicated that the brand’s second and third offerings are progressing rapidly. This signals a promising future for Maextro in the competitive luxury car market.
