BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) recently introduced the Atto 2 compact pure electric SUV in Malaysia, which is essentially the same model as the Yuan Up. This move marks Malaysia as the first market to receive the right-hand drive version of the vehicle.

The Atto 2 is available in a single Premium variant in Malaysia, with a starting price of 100,000 Malaysian Ringgit ($23,630). The vehicle comes equipped with a 51.13-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, offering an NEDC range of 410 kilometers. This larger battery pack provides a longer range compared to the Chinese and European versions of the vehicle.

BYD has been a top performer in the Malaysian electric vehicle market, holding the title of sales champion for battery electric vehicles for three consecutive years. This success has paved the way for the launch of the Atto 2 in the country.

With eight variants available in China, the BYD Yuan Up ranges in price from RMB 96,800 ($13,490) to RMB 119,800. BYD first entered the Malaysian passenger vehicle market in December 2022 with the introduction of the Yuan Plus.

To date, BYD and Denza have established over 40 sales outlets in Malaysia, indicating a strong presence in the market. The BYD Group reported selling 382,585 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in June, marking an 11.98 percent year-on-year increase.

Overseas sales have also seen remarkable growth, with BYD selling 90,049 vehicles in June alone. This represents a 233.58 percent year-on-year increase and marks the seventh consecutive month of record-breaking sales for the company.

The Atto 2’s launch in Malaysia further solidifies BYD’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle market, both domestically and internationally. With a strong lineup of electric vehicles and a growing global presence, BYD continues to make significant strides in the EV industry.
