XPENG AEROHT moves into large-scale flight testing for flying car project

XPENG AEROHT, the innovative flying car company under the XPENG umbrella, has recently achieved a significant milestone in its development journey. CEO Zhao Deli announced the official establishment of the company’s specialized flight test pilot team on August 5, marking the commencement of extensive flight testing for its next-generation flying vehicle.

The focal point of XPENG AEROHT’s product lineup is the “Land Aircraft Carrier,” a cutting-edge flying vehicle that boasts several unique engineering features. One standout aspect is its distributed power system, engineered to ensure flight stability even in the event of a single rotor failure. Additionally, the aircraft is equipped with a one-stick control system, a feature deemed unparalleled in the flying car industry. Moreover, a backup switch is incorporated into the design to activate an automated return-to-home mode should primary control failure occur.

Financially, XPENG AEROHT is well-positioned, having recently concluded a successful $250 million Series B funding round on July 15. The infusion of capital is earmarked for ongoing research and development efforts, as well as to expedite the mass production and commercialization plans for its flying vehicles.

In preparation for production, the company’s inaugural dedicated flying car manufacturing facility, a pioneering establishment globally, has completed construction and is currently undergoing equipment installation and calibration. The facility is slated for finalization in the fourth quarter of this year, with mass production of the Land Aircraft Carrier set to commence in 2026.

Following its inaugural public flight on a global scale last year, the model has progressed into the full airworthiness certification process. In March of this year, aviation authorities released a draft of special conditions for public feedback. Recently, XPENG AEROHT’s application for a Production Certificate (PC) was approved by the CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration, with expectations to secure a Type Certificate (TC) by the year’s end.

A standout feature of the Land Aircraft Carrier is its patented onboard separation-and-docking mechanism, enabling users to seamlessly switch between driving and flying modes in a mere five minutes with a single touch. The vehicle showcases a futuristic cyber-mecha design and can be driven on the road with a standard Class C driver’s license. XPENG AEROHT touts it as the world’s sole car capable of accommodating a full two-seat aircraft, as well as the only aircraft compact enough to fit inside a car trunk.

With its groundbreaking technology and forward-thinking approach, XPENG AEROHT is poised to revolutionize the flying car industry and pave the way for a new era of transportation.
