Genesis Electrified G80 Discontinued in the US Market
Genesis has made the decision to discontinue the Genesis Electrified G80 in the United States. The luxury EV sedan, which was introduced in the first half of 2023, has faced challenges in gaining traction in the market. Despite an updated model being launched last year with improvements in range, interior space, and luxury features, the Electrified G80 has failed to meet expectations.
As a result of its underperformance, Genesis has removed the Electrified G80 from its official website, leaving only the GV60 and Electrified GV70 models listed. This move confirms that the electric G80 sedan will no longer be offered to customers in North America.
The 2024 model year marked the end of the Electrified G80, with the 2025 version never making its way to the US market. Equipped with an 87 kWh battery, the Electrified G80 offered an EPA-estimated range of 282 miles. Despite the updated model featuring a larger 94.5 kWh battery and increased range of up to 295 miles in Korea, it still fell short compared to competitors like the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S.
Sales figures reflect the struggles faced by the Electrified G80, with only 397 units sold in 2024 and an additional 77 units in the first half of 2025. In contrast, Lucid sold over 5,000 Air sedans in the same period, while Tesla moved 2,715 Model S sedans in the US.
One of the contributing factors to Genesis’s decision to discontinue the Electrified G80 is the 15% duty on imported vehicles, despite avoiding the maximum 25% tariff. With the federal tax credit of $7,500 set to expire at the end of September, Genesis is now offering significant discounts on its remaining EV models.
