Lightship begins travel trailer production, introduces two new trims

Lightship, a groundbreaking startup in the recreational vehicle industry, has reached a major milestone with the start of production of its flagship electric travel trailer, the AE.1 Cosmos Edition. This marks a significant achievement as the first Cosmos Editions of the AE.1 are now rolling off the assembly line in Colorado. In addition to this exciting development, Lightship has revealed details of two new variants that will follow.

Founded in 2020 by industry veterans Ben Parker and Toby Kraus, who have previous experience at Tesla, Lightship is based in San Francisco with operations in Broomfield, Colorado. The startup made its debut in 2022 and officially emerged from stealth mode a year later. Lightship positioned itself as the first all-electric RV company, aiming to revolutionize the RV market with sustainable and innovative battery-powered trailers designed for the electric age.

The journey began with the L1, Lightship’s original electric travel trailer with a unique telescoping aerodynamic design that garnered attention from electric mobility enthusiasts. Following a successful Series B funding round of $34 million in January 2024, the company accelerated its production efforts in the US. By the end of the same year, Lightship rebranded the L1 as the AE.1 and introduced the Cosmos Edition for pre-sale ahead of production in 2025.

Today, Lightship celebrates the commencement of production for its electric travel trailers, with the AE.1 Cosmos Edition leading the way. The initial sales of the Cosmos Edition have been met with strong demand, resulting in a sold-out status. To cater to different traveler needs and price points, Lightship has unveiled two additional versions alongside the production announcement: the AE.1 Atmos and AE.1 Panos.

Both the Atmos and Panos models feature Lightship’s TrekDrive vehicle assist technology, with varying battery sizes (77 kWh vs. 44 kWh) and integrated solar panel roof capabilities. CEO Toby Kraus expressed excitement about expanding their offerings to cater to a wider range of customers, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable adventure without compromising on performance or design.

While the focus is currently on delivering the sold-out Cosmos Edition, Lightship plans to begin deliveries of the AE.1 Atmos in spring 2026, followed by the Panos in late 2026. The Atmos and Panos variants are priced starting at $184,000 and $151,000, respectively. For more information and to reserve an AE.1 of your own, visit the Lightship website.
