Nissan Ariya Receives Significant Price Cut to Qualify for Electric Car Grant
The Nissan Ariya has recently undergone a price adjustment, slashing over £6000 off its original price tag to make it eligible for the Electric Car Grant (ECG) in the UK. This move comes as Nissan reshuffles the lineup of its electric SUV to meet the criteria set by the government for the grant.
Initially, the Ariya was one of the 19 models listed as eligible for a £1500 discount under the ECG scheme. However, it was priced above the £37,000 threshold in all its variants, making it ineligible for the grant. To rectify this, Nissan has introduced the Shiro edition of the Ariya, featuring an exclusive pearlescent white paint finish. The entry-level Engage trim with the 63kWh battery pack now starts at just £33,500 after the grant, while the larger 87kWh battery variant is priced from £35,500, still falling under the threshold.
Only the front-wheel-drive Ariyas in Engage trim qualify for the grant, with the Advance and e-4orce models priced above the threshold. The top-of-the-line Nismo performance edition starts at £56,630, offering a range of options for customers looking to make the switch to electric vehicles.
With this adjustment, both of Nissan’s current EV offerings in the UK now qualify for the ECG. The entry price for the new Micra has been reduced to £21,495 with the £1500 discount, and the upcoming UK-built Leaf crossover is poised to receive the higher £3750 discount, according to Nissan UK boss James Taylor.
Fiona Mackay, Nissan GB’s marketing director, expressed enthusiasm about the accessibility of the Ariya with the ECG eligibility, stating that it now offers greater value without compromising on innovation, design, and performance. She emphasized Nissan’s commitment to breaking down barriers to EV ownership and enabling more drivers to embrace zero-emission driving.
Looking ahead, Nissan is gearing up for the launch of the third-generation British-built Leaf later this year, followed by the electric Juke in 2026, both produced at the Sunderland plant. The company’s focus on expanding its electric vehicle lineup underscores its dedication to sustainable mobility and driving the transition to a cleaner, greener future.
