Electric Skoda estate concept to channel spirit of Mk1 Octavia

Skoda has unveiled a new concept car, the Vision O, which features a “steeply raked” windscreen and “gently sloping roofline” that are reminiscent of Skoda’s successful estate models such as the Superb and Octavia. These estate models have been some of Skoda’s best-selling global models, with the Octavia Combi being the top seller in certain markets.

The company is dedicated to carrying on the legacy of estate bodywork into the future, as stated by Skoda themselves. The exterior designer, Jounggeen Kim, shaped the silhouette of the Vision O concept, aiming to apply Skoda’s Modern Solid design language to an estate car. Kim described the concept as an “all-in-one” proposition, built to be practical, reliable, and trustworthy – qualities that reflect Skoda’s family-oriented brand image.

While the Vision O concept looks towards the future with Skoda’s current design principles, Kim drew inspiration from past models like the Yeti and Roomster. Originally, Skoda had planned to release an electric estate version of the Octavia based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB electric architecture. However, it will now be underpinned by the VW Group’s upcoming SSP architecture for improved performance and cost-efficiency.

Overall, the Vision O concept promises to be a forward-thinking design that stays true to Skoda’s roots while incorporating modern elements. With a focus on practicality and reliability, Skoda’s commitment to estate models remains strong as they continue to innovate and evolve in the automotive industry.
