Kia is making waves in the electric vehicle market, with a focus on Europe over the US. The company’s EV3 SUV has been a hit in Europe, becoming the top-selling retail EV in the UK. Building on this success, Kia is introducing new models like the EV5 and EV4 in Europe.
The EV4 hatchback, Kia’s first all-electric hatch, has already started taking orders in Europe. Following closely behind is the Fastback version, a sedan model. Additionally, the upgraded EV5, a Tesla Model Y-sized electric SUV, is set to make its debut in Europe later this year.
Kia is also planning to launch the EV4 in the US in early 2026, but the EV5 will be exclusive to the Canadian market in North America. The company is also gearing up to introduce the smaller and more affordable EV2 next year, positioning it as an entry-level electric vehicle below the EV3.
Prices for the EV4 are expected to start around $35,000, with a driving range of up to 330 miles. In the UK, the hatchback version starts at £34,695 ($47,700) with a driving range of up to 388 miles, while the Fastback variant is priced from £40,895 ($55,000) with a range of up to 380 miles.
Kia’s focus on Europe can be attributed to new tariffs imposed on vehicle imports by the Trump Administration, with imported vehicles from South Korea facing a 15% tariff. Additionally, the upcoming expiration of the $7,500 federal tax credit for EVs by the end of September is expected to make the US EV market even more competitive.
Despite slower EV sales in the US this year, Kia is looking to offset this with the introduction of new models in Europe. The company’s first electric van, the PV5, is set to launch in Europe, with its arrival in the US still uncertain.
Overall, Kia’s strategic decision to prioritize Europe for its electric vehicle launches reflects the changing landscape of the global EV market. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Kia is making significant strides in the electric vehicle space, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly transportation options.
