Great Wall Motor (GWM) has officially opened its brand new vehicle assembly plant in Brazil, marking a significant step in the Chinese automaker’s expansion into the South American market. The inauguration ceremony, which took place on the 15th of August, was graced by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and GWM’s CEO Mu Feng.

Acquiring the site of the plant in Iracemápolis, São Paulo, from Daimler AG four years ago, GWM’s new facility will serve as a production hub for markets across Latin America. This move is expected to shorten delivery times in key markets such as Mexico, Argentina, and Chile.

With an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles, the state-of-the-art facility boasts advanced and automated manufacturing processes in its welding, paint shop, and final assembly lines. Initially, the plant will produce popular models like the Haval H6 and H9 SUVs, as well as the GWM Poer pickup truck.

Reports indicate that GWM is already scouting for a new site in Brazil to establish a second plant as part of its ongoing expansion strategy in South America. Ultimately, the company aims to sell up to 300,000 vehicles annually in Brazil, which is the largest vehicle market in the region.

The opening of this new plant signifies GWM’s commitment to establishing a strong presence in Latin America and underscores the company’s ambitions for growth and market leadership in the region.
