Lucid Motors has confirmed the launch of a new midsize electric vehicle that will be priced around $50,000. This comes after the success of their electric SUV and sedan models, which also started at a similar price point. The company’s former CEO, Peter Rawlinson, had previously promised to bring down the costs of EVs by introducing new battery, powertrain, and other advanced technologies.
The Lucid Air, the company’s first model, has already seen a significant price drop since its initial launch. With the introduction of the Lucid Air Dream Edition in 2021, which started at $169,000, the 2025 Lucid Air is now available for under $70,000. This is just the beginning, as Lucid is now working on a new platform to power a range of midsize electric vehicles that will be priced around $50,000, directly competing with Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.
Last year, Lucid revealed their plans to launch three new midsize EVs on the platform, including an electric midsize crossover, sedan, and a third mystery vehicle. At the Munich Motor Show, Lucid’s interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, confirmed that the third $50,000 EV will be based on the Gravity X concept.
The Gravity X is an all-terrain version of Lucid’s electric SUV, featuring off-road upgrades like all-terrain tires, a lifted suspension, tow hooks, and a unique roof rack system with built-in LED lights. The interior of the Gravity X is designed for off-road adventures, with premium leather seats, high-performance floor mats, and other upgrades.
Winterhoff also mentioned that Lucid has the funding to start production on the midsize platform in the second half of next year. The company will initially focus on ramping up production of the standard midsize SUV before moving on to the rugged off-road version, which is expected to arrive in early 2027.
The rugged midsize SUV from Lucid will likely compete with models like the Rivian R2/R3, Jeep Recon, and Scout Terra. With a price tag of around $50,000, it will offer a compelling option for those looking for an electric off-roader.
