Toyota to ramp up EV bet in China with 5.1-meter bZ7 sedan

Toyota is gearing up to launch its bZ7 electric sedan in China, with a strong emphasis on locally developed smart technologies. The Japanese automaker’s Chinese joint venture, GAC Toyota, recently unveiled official images of the bZ7, hinting at an imminent launch for the 5,130 mm electric sedan.

The bZ7 is set to feature cutting-edge smart technologies that have been developed in China, including Huawei’s HarmonySpace cockpit and Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem. These local innovations will enhance the overall driving experience and connectivity of the bZ7, making it a highly anticipated addition to the electric vehicle market.

With a sleek and stylish design, the bZ7 boasts a lengthy body measuring 5,130 mm and a golden width-to-height ratio of 1.30. The sedan is powered by a motor supplied by Huawei, delivering a peak power output of 207 kW (278 horsepower) and a top speed of 180 km/h. Its curb weight is 2,105 kg, ensuring a smooth and efficient performance on the road.

The launch of the bZ7 follows Toyota’s recent success in the Chinese EV market, where the automaker has been steadily increasing its presence and market share. Earlier this year, GAC Toyota introduced the bZ3X, a pure-electric SUV priced at just RMB 109,800 ($15,430). The aggressive pricing strategy paid off, with the bZ3X securing over 10,000 orders within the first hour of availability.

To further solidify its position in the Chinese market, Toyota has shifted decision-making authority for new model development from Japan to China. This move underscores the company’s commitment to local innovation and expertise, as well as its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of Chinese consumers.

Overall, the bZ7 represents Toyota’s ongoing commitment to expanding its electric vehicle offerings in China and staying ahead of the curve in one of the world’s largest EV markets. With its blend of advanced technology, sleek design, and impressive performance, the bZ7 is poised to make a significant impact and further solidify Toyota’s position as a leader in the electric vehicle industry.
