China EV insurance registrations for week ending Oct 13: Nio 4,700, Tesla 8,500, Xiaomi 4,600, BYD 106,200

Major electric vehicle (EV) makers in China experienced a surge in insurance registrations last week, following the disruptions caused by the National Day holiday. Li Auto reported 13,400 insurance registrations, a significant increase from the previous week’s 8,700. Xpeng saw 3,900 registrations, Zeekr had 5,500, Leapmotor recorded 8,700, and Aito had 7,100 registrations.

Nio, one of the leading EV makers, observed 4,700 vehicle insurance registrations in China during the same period. This marked a 4.44 percent increase from the previous week. Nio’s sub-brand, Onvo, also reported 900 insurance registrations.

Li Auto had an impressive record of delivering 53,709 vehicles in September, surpassing their previous record set in July. The company also celebrated the production of their 1 millionth vehicle, a remarkable milestone achieved in just 58 months.

Xpeng reported 3,900 insurance registrations last week, reflecting a 39.29 percent increase from the week before. The company delivered 21,352 vehicles in September, with their new model, Mona M03, exceeding 10,000 units in its first full delivery month.

Tesla, with 8,500 insurance registrations in China, witnessed a substantial 372.22 percent increase from the previous week. The US EV maker sold 72,200 vehicles in China in September, with the Model Y leading in retail sales at 48,202 units.

BYD, on the other hand, reported a staggering 106,200 insurance registrations last week, marking a 57.10 percent increase from the previous week. The company sold a record 419,426 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in September, continuing their trend of consecutive record-breaking months.

Xiaomi saw 4,600 insurance registrations last week, a 21.05 percent increase from the previous week. The company’s first EV model, the SU7, delivered over 10,000 units in September, with plans to produce and deliver more than 20,000 vehicles in October.

Zeekr reported 5,500 insurance registrations, a 48.65 percent increase from the week before. The company delivered 21,333 vehicles in September, setting a new record high and surpassing their previous record set in June.

Leapmotor recorded 8,700 insurance registrations, a significant 148.57 percent increase from the previous week. The company delivered 33,767 vehicles in September, marking their second consecutive month of over 30,000 units.

Aito, a brand created by Huawei and Seres Group, saw 7,100 insurance registrations last week, reflecting a 54.35 percent increase from the previous week. Overall, the EV market in China continues to show strong growth and competition among major players.
