Nio exports 1,083 cars in Jan-Sept, 0.67% of production

Nio, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker, has made significant strides in the global market, with recent data revealing that the company exported 1,083 vehicles in the first nine months of this year, accounting for 0.67 percent of its total production of 161,903 vehicles. While Nio has not publicly disclosed its export figures, a report from China’s state broadcaster CCTV shed light on this aspect of the company’s operations.

Based in eastern China’s Anhui province, Nio has two production facilities that have been instrumental in its manufacturing processes. Despite its relatively low export numbers compared to other major automakers in the region, Nio has been actively expanding its international presence. The company has made significant inroads in Europe, particularly in Norway, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Additionally, Nio is set to enter the Middle East market, with plans to establish a joint venture called Nio MENA with CYVN Holdings.

In contrast, Anhui-based auto giant Chery has been a dominant force in the region, producing over a million vehicles in the same period, with a significant portion being exported. Chery’s vehicle fleet comprises a mix of traditional gasoline vehicles and new energy vehicle (NEV) models, contributing to its success in both domestic and international markets.

Other major automakers in Anhui, such as BYD, Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), and Volkswagen Anhui, have also made significant contributions to the region’s automotive industry. While some companies have focused on domestic production, others have prioritized exports to international markets.

Nio’s journey in the automotive industry has been marked by significant milestones, including the acquisition of production assets from JAC and the construction of a new factory, F3, with a capacity of 100,000 units per year. The company’s focus on innovation and expansion has led to steady growth in vehicle deliveries, with the recent launch of its Onvo brand targeting the mass market segment.

Looking ahead, Nio is poised to introduce its third brand, Firefly, at the upcoming Nio Day 2024 event in Guangzhou. With a strategic focus on different market segments, Nio continues to push boundaries in the EV industry and establish itself as a key player in the global automotive market.
