Diesel version of the Tank 300 SUV exposed by regulator ahead of launch in China

Back in May, Great Wall Motor Chairman Wei Jianjun hinted at a diesel version of the Tank 300. Since then, there has been little news about the car, except for a regulatory listing for a diesel version of the Tank 400 in August. However, thanks to information from a government regulator, we now have more details about the upcoming diesel Tank 300, set to launch in the coming months.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology listing reveals that the diesel Tank 300 will have slightly different dimensions compared to the petrol and 48V hybrid versions of the SUV. The diesel version will come in two lengths, 4750 and 4775 mm, with a width of 1930 mm. There are also two heights listed, 1903 and 1927 mm, along with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. Curb weight ranges from 2340 to 2375 kg, and buyers can choose from 17 or 18-inch wheels.

The variation in length is due to the front overhang, which differs between 910 and 935 mm. The diesel Tank 300 will have a towing capacity of 750 kg for an unbraked trailer and 2500 kg for a braked trailer.

The diesel Tank 300 will be powered by a Great Wall E24D Diesel engine with a maximum power of 137 kW, the same engine used in the diesel Tank 400 and Poer range of pickup trucks.

The Tank 300, the oldest car in the Tank range, was originally sold under the Wey brand before becoming a standalone brand. With a recent facelift focusing mainly on the interior, the diesel version is expected to debut with these improvements. Pricing for the petrol version ranges from 199,800 to 216,800 yuan (28,050 – 30,400 USD), with the diesel version likely to be similarly priced.

The diesel Tank 300 is expected to cater to serious off-road enthusiasts in China and abroad. The diesel engine’s high torque will allow the vehicle to tackle steep slopes and challenging terrains with ease. Additionally, diesel engines offer greater range, ideal for remote locations and off-road adventures.
