Ram 1500 recalled due to tow mirror glass falling off

Stellantis has issued a recall for 31,676 RAM pickup trucks due to a potential safety issue with the side mirror glass. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) made the announcement on Monday, revealing that the affected vehicles are 2020-2023 Ram 1500 Classic trucks.

The Ram 1500 Classic trucks are part of the previous generation of Ram 1500 models, which were sold alongside the redesigned version introduced in 2019. Both of these models have since been replaced by the updated 2025 Ram 1500, which features new technology and a twin-turbo V-6 engine.

The specific issue with the recalled vehicles involves the driver-side mirror glass on Classic models with heated trailer tow side mirrors. The glass may detach from the mirror assembly, posing a safety risk as it conflicts with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, which requires vehicles to have driver-side exterior rearview mirrors.

Stellantis has determined that 5% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect, which is attributed to the glass not being properly attached to a backing plate during assembly. However, vehicles not included in the recall have a similar mirror assembly design, and Stellantis believes their exterior mirrors were assembled correctly.

To address the issue, dealers will replace the mirror glass free of charge for affected vehicles. Stellantis will also reimburse customers who had already paid for this repair prior to the recall announcement. Owners can expect to receive notification letters by December 5, or they can contact Stellantis’ customer service department for more information.

If you own one of the affected Ram pickup trucks, you can reach out to Stellantis at 1-800-853-1403 or visit their recall site for additional details. The reference number for this recall is 86B.

It is crucial for vehicle owners to take action promptly to ensure their safety and compliance with safety regulations. Stellantis is committed to resolving this issue and providing necessary support to affected customers.
