Morgan to Discontinue Plus Six, Introduce New Flagship Model

Morgan has announced that it will be ending production of its Plus Six early next year. The Plus Six, a higher-powered, six-cylinder version of the brand’s two-tier ‘Plus’ range, will be replaced by a new flagship model that will bring a fresh design language to the British automaker.

The departure of the Plus Six will be commemorated with the introduction of the Plus Six Pinnacle, a limited edition model with only 30 examples available. This new model will draw inspiration from the striking Pininfarina-styled Midsummer, unveiled earlier this year.

Priced at £96,995, the Plus Six Pinnacle will showcase Morgan’s expanding bespoke program, offering customers a wide range of customization options.

Insiders at Morgan have revealed that the replacement for the Plus Six will arrive late next year as a two-seat sports car that will depart from the traditional ‘wing silhouette’ seen in current Morgans.

Meanwhile, the best-selling Plus Four will continue to embody the brand’s vintage styling, dating back to the 4/4 model from 1936.

Morgan’s design chief, Jonathan Wells, has hinted at a move towards a more modern aesthetic, often referred to as “the jet age.”

The new flagship model is expected to take cues from the limited-edition Midsummer, offering a more exclusive and upmarket option compared to the Plus Four. This move aims to justify higher prices and generate more interest in Morgan’s bespoke program.

With competitors adopting similar strategies, some within Morgan have been advocating for this shift for some time.

The upcoming model is likely to retain the CX extruded-aluminium chassis used in the Plus models, along with a version of the outgoing Six’s 3.0-litre BMW-derived turbocharged inline six engine. This powertrain currently delivers 335bhp but has the potential for higher performance outputs.
