Exciting news surrounds Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory as it gears up to start production of new models. According to a Chinese car blogger, the new Tesla Model Y will begin closed-loop production at the Shanghai Gigafactory on October 22, with a production volume of 12 vehicles per day. Security measures will be tight, with restrictions on mobile phone access within the production area.

A source familiar with the matter revealed to CarNewsChina that mass production of the Model Y will commence in late November. In preparation for this milestone, all electronic devices have been banned from the workshop in Giga Shanghai since yesterday.

Earlier this year, Tesla USA announced that the Model Y would not undergo a facelift in North America until 2024. Despite rumors circulating on social media, Elon Musk has consistently denied any plans for an earlier release.

Rumors suggest that the new Model Y may feature a 95 kWh battery pack, a front design similar to the Tesla Model 3 Highland, and a through-type taillight design akin to the Tesla Cybertruck. A red color trim could also be introduced. Despite speculations of a 2024 launch, reports indicate that the new Model Y will hit the market in 2025. Blogger S.E. Robinson, Jr. previously shared images of a camouflaged Model Y spotted in Palo Alto, California.

Official confirmation is still pending on the start of closed production for the new Tesla Model Y in China.

Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, its first overseas facility, recently celebrated the production of its three millionth vehicle. The factory achieves remarkable efficiency, with an average of one vehicle rolling off the production line every 30 seconds. Export numbers have also soared, reaching one million vehicles to date. Tesla reports that the first million vehicles took 32 months to produce, while the second and third million took only 13 months.

In September alone, Tesla sold 48,202 Model Y units in China, marking a 16.35% year-on-year increase and a 6.34% month-on-month rise. The sales figures topped the SUV category, with 2,872 more units sold compared to August.
