Geely has recently introduced the Leishen EM-i hybrid system, a more fuel-efficient alternative to its previously launched performance-oriented Leishen EM-p system. This new system aims to compete with BYD’s DM-i system, known for its exceptional fuel economy.

At the unveiling event, Geely described the Leishen EM-i as a next-generation hybrid system designed for mainstream users, boasting technological advancements in the engine and transmission. With an impressive thermal efficiency of 46.5 percent, the Leishen EM-i promises remarkable fuel efficiency.

Test vehicles equipped with the Leishen EM-i system have demonstrated a range of up to 2,390 kilometers and an average fuel consumption of just 2.62 liters per 100 kilometers. This showcases the system’s focus on maximizing fuel economy for consumers.

Similar to BYD’s DM hybrid technology platform, which includes the DM-i and DM-p variants, Geely’s Leishen hybrid systems are divided into the fuel-economy-oriented EM-i and the performance-oriented EM-p. This strategic naming convention aligns with industry trends and consumer preferences for hybrid technology.

BYD, a key player in the hybrid technology space, recently launched its fifth-generation DM technology, boasting a thermal efficiency of 46.06 percent. This technology has enabled BYD models to achieve fuel consumption as low as 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers, with a range of up to 2,100 kilometers.

Geely’s adoption of the Leishen EM-i system in upcoming models like the Galaxy Starship 7, Galaxy L6, and L7 signifies the company’s commitment to offering environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient vehicles to consumers. The Galaxy Starship 7, set to debut in November, will be the first model to feature the Leishen EM-i system.

In the competitive landscape of the Chinese passenger car market, BYD has emerged as a leader in sales, outpacing Geely in terms of retail units sold. Despite this, Geely’s focus on innovation and sustainability through the introduction of the Leishen EM-i system demonstrates its dedication to meeting consumer demand for efficient and eco-friendly vehicles.

Overall, the introduction of the Leishen EM-i hybrid system underscores Geely’s commitment to advancing hybrid technology and providing consumers with a range of fuel-efficient options in the automotive market.
