The Dacia Spring Cargo: UK’s Most Affordable Electric Van for Last-Mile Delivery

The Dacia Spring Cargo has made its debut as a van version of the popular electric city car, specifically tailored for last-mile delivery fleets. Priced at £14,995 (excluding VAT), it stands as the most cost-effective electric van in the UK market and is eligible for the government’s £2500 Plug-in Van Grant. Additionally, businesses can opt for a competitive leasing plan at £149 per month (excluding VAT), with a deposit of £894 and an annual mileage allowance of 10,000 miles.

Based on the range-topping Extreme variant of the passenger car, the Spring Cargo features a single motor delivering 64bhp to the front wheels, coupled with a 26.8kWh battery pack that supports rapid charging at up to 30kW. This configuration enables a commendable range of 140 miles, with a swift 45-minute refill time for a 20-80% charge. Notably, the Cargo model also boasts vehicle-to-load capability, enabling the battery to power external devices up to 240V through an adapter for the charging port.

Internally, the Spring Cargo forgoes the rear seats present in the passenger car, creating a spacious and flat load bay separated from the driver’s area by a net. Dacia asserts that the extended boot offers a generous 1085 litres of storage capacity, with a maximum payload rating of 370kg. The inclusion of a 10-inch infotainment screen with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a reversing camera, cruise control, and manual air conditioning enhances the overall driving experience.

Scheduled for deliveries to commence by the end of the year, the Dacia Spring Cargo presents an attractive and practical solution for businesses seeking an affordable and eco-friendly option for their last-mile delivery operations. With its efficient performance, versatile design, and competitive pricing, the Spring Cargo sets a new benchmark in the electric van segment, catering to the evolving needs of modern urban logistics.
