Volvo’s EX60 Set to Revolutionize Mainstream EV Adoption by 2026

Volvo EX60 Autocar render

Volvo’s highly popular XC60 model is set to undergo a significant transformation with the introduction of its electric counterpart, the EX60, in 2026. The EX60 is expected to play a pivotal role in Volvo’s electrification strategy, marking a major milestone in the brand’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

One of the key highlights of the EX60 is its utilization of the innovative SPA3 platform, a significant evolution of the existing SPA2 platform. This new platform offers enhanced scalability, allowing for a wider range of vehicle sizes to be accommodated, from compact models to larger SUVs like the EX90.

In addition, the SPA3 platform will leverage megacasting technology, a cutting-edge manufacturing process that streamlines production by creating entire car sections as single components. This not only reduces costs but also improves structural integrity and reduces overall weight, enhancing both performance and efficiency.

While specific technical details of the EX60 are still under wraps, it is expected to offer both single and dual-motor configurations, along with an advanced infotainment system similar to the one featured in the ES90 model.

Expanding Volvo’s Electric Lineup with a Focus on Estate Models

With the introduction of the ES90 and EX60, Volvo is poised to offer a total of six electric vehicles in the European market. The brand is also working on three additional EV models, some of which will be electrified versions of existing models while others will venture into new market segments.

While Volvo’s current combustion lineup includes popular models like the S60 saloon and V60/V90 estates, the brand is exploring the possibility of introducing electric estate models in the future. Despite a decline in demand for estates, particularly in key markets like China, Volvo recognizes the importance of catering to diverse consumer preferences and is actively considering the inclusion of electric estate models in its lineup.
