2025 Skoda Octavia RS review: Quick drive

The Skoda Octavia RS has always been known for its perfect blend of everyday usability and performance. With the latest 2025 version receiving significant upgrades, including a facelift, improved infotainment, and increased power output, it’s time to see if this model continues to shine in the competitive mid-sized performance car segment.

Performance and Pricing

The 2025 Skoda Octavia RS is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 195kW and 370Nm of torque. This power increase has resulted in quicker acceleration times, with the liftback variant hitting 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds and the wagon in 6.5 seconds.

While the pricing for the updated RS range has not been announced yet, the previous model was priced at $56,990 drive-away for the liftback and $58,490 for the wagon. Skoda Australia is known for offering competitive pricing, so we expect the new RS to be a sub-$60,000 performance bargain.

Interior and Features

The interior of the Octavia RS is a delightful mix of sporty textures, tech integration, and practicality. The standout feature is the 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, which offers intuitive controls and wireless smartphone connectivity. The cabin is well-appointed with premium materials, red stitching, and a sporty ambiance.

Space is abundant in both the liftback and wagon variants, with ample legroom and cargo capacity. The boot space is impressive, with the wagon offering a cavernous 1700 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Driving Experience

The Octavia RS delivers a balanced driving experience, offering a blend of comfort and performance. The sports-tuned suspension provides a controlled ride, while the steering is precise and responsive. The VAQ electronically controlled limited-slip differential enhances traction, especially during spirited driving.

While the RS may not be the most thrilling hot hatch, it excels in providing a comfortable and engaging driving experience. The sports exhaust adds a nice touch of sound, and the overall driving dynamics are well-suited for daily use.

Safety and Running Costs

The Octavia RS comes equipped with a range of safety features, including blind-spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and lane assist. The model received a full five-star ANCAP safety rating, ensuring peace of mind for occupants.

Skoda’s seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, capped-price servicing, and roadside assistance provide added value for owners. The model is expected to have competitive running costs, making it an attractive option in its class.

Verdict

The 2025 Skoda Octavia RS continues to impress with its performance, comfort, and practicality. While it may not be the most thrilling hot hatch on the market, it excels in providing a well-rounded driving experience for daily use. With competitive pricing and a host of features, the Octavia RS is a compelling choice in the mid-sized performance car segment.
