Perodua, Malaysia’s second national carmaker, has recently announced a partnership with Gentari Green Mobility to set up EV recharging facilities at its service centers across the country. This agreement comes in anticipation of Perodua’s plan to launch its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) in Malaysia in 2025. Gentari Green Mobility, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd, was established by national oil and gas giant Petronas and currently operates the largest EV charging network in Malaysia with 175 DC charging points.

Perodua, the largest vehicle producer in Malaysia, with 260,361 sales in the first ten months of 2024, has 194 sales outlets and 209 service centers nationwide. The automaker recently confirmed its plans to launch an affordable battery-powered small car next year, with prices starting at less than MYR100,000 (US$22,400) after local incentives.

Shah Yang Razalli, CEO of Gentari, expressed excitement about collaborating with Perodua to drive greater adoption of green mobility in Malaysia. Gentari aims to enhance the experience for future Perodua EV drivers by improving charging accessibility and convenience. Key initiatives in this collaboration include the installation of EV charging facilities at Perodua service centers, especially at Petronas stations, offering access to EV charging subscriptions and home charging solutions, and seamless integration with the Gentari Go platform.

In addition to the partnership with Gentari, Perodua also signed an agreement with Petronas Dagangan Bhd to provide new customer services at its service centers and establish new Perodua service outlets at selected Petronas petrol stations. Perodua recently unveiled a battery-powered Myvi small car prototype developed in partnership with three local universities: Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kuala Lumpur, and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

This collaboration between Perodua and Gentari aims to pave the way for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Malaysia, offering customers a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation option. With the increasing focus on green mobility and the transition towards electric vehicles globally, this partnership signifies a significant step towards a greener future for the automotive industry in Malaysia.
