Kia EV6 GT updated with 641bhp Hyundai Ioniq 5 N powertrain

The New Kia EV6 GT: More Power, More Range

The highly anticipated Kia EV6 GT is set to receive a significant update, borrowing the powertrain from its closely related sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. This upgrade will result in a substantial increase in power for the electric crossover.

Equipped with a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive system, the new EV6 GT will deliver 601bhp and 545lb ft of torque under normal driving conditions. However, selecting the GT drive mode will temporarily boost these figures to an impressive 641bhp and 568lb ft, surpassing the outgoing model’s 576bhp and 545lb ft.

While Kia has not yet disclosed the impact of these enhancements on the car’s performance, it is expected to improve upon the previous model’s 0-62mph acceleration time of 3.5 seconds. For comparison, Hyundai claims the Ioniq 5 N achieves this sprint in 3.4 seconds.

In addition to the power increase, the new EV6 GT will feature the simulated automatic gearbox found in the Ioniq 5 N and the larger Kia EV9 GT. This system replicates the gear shifts and power delivery of a traditional performance car, offering a more engaging driving experience. Drivers can choose between automatic operation or manual control via paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Enhancing its driving range, the updated EV6 GT will house an 84kWh battery pack, an upgrade from the previous 77kWh capacity. This larger battery is expected to slightly improve the car’s range, which was previously rated at 263 miles on a single charge.

Although official images of the new EV6 GT have not been released, it is anticipated to feature styling cues from Kia’s latest electric models, such as the EV3, EV5, and EV9. The interior is also expected to receive updates, including a new three-spoke steering wheel.

Anticipated to launch in the UK early next year, pricing for the new EV6 GT is likely to see a slight increase compared to its predecessor, which started at £62,675.
