The 2024 Guangzhou auto show recently concluded, showcasing a total of 1,171 vehicles, including 512 new energy vehicles (NEVs). NEVs took center stage at the event, with almost every booth featuring these innovative models.

The show, which ran from November 15-24, attracted 853,000 visitors, highlighting the growing interest in NEVs among consumers. This year’s event emphasized the importance of sustainable transportation solutions, with NEVs accounting for 43.7 percent of the total vehicles on display.

China’s NEV market has experienced significant growth in recent years, with sales surpassing 1 million units for the third consecutive month. In October, retail sales of Chinese passenger NEVs reached 1.196 million units, a 56.7 percent increase from the previous year.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for a majority of NEV sales, representing 56.3 percent of all retail sales in October. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also saw strong demand, making up 33.9 percent of NEV sales during the same period.

Looking ahead, the NEV industry is expected to continue its rapid expansion, with monthly sales projected to exceed 1.28 million units in November. This growth underscores the increasing popularity of electric vehicles in China’s automotive market.

The Guangzhou auto show, which began in 2003, is an annual event that showcases the latest trends and innovations in the automotive industry. NEVs have become a key focus of the show, reflecting the industry’s shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

As China’s automotive market continues to evolve, NEVs are expected to play a significant role in shaping the future of transportation. With the 2025 Guangzhou auto show scheduled for November 21-30, 2025, industry experts anticipate even greater emphasis on electric vehicles and other sustainable mobility solutions.
