The 2026 Kia Sportage is a compact crossover that competes in a crowded segment with popular models like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-50, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Chevy Equinox. Kia has made significant updates to the Sportage for 2026, with a focus on driver conveniences and overall improvements to the driving experience.

The exterior of the 2026 Sportage has been refreshed with a new dogbone grille design that gives the front end a sleek and modern look. The front end now features amber running lights and available cube headlights that are stacked in a column, resembling Catwoman’s mask. The Sportage also boasts flexed fenders, available roof rails, and a range of wheel sizes from 17 to 19 inches, giving it a unique blend of feminine curves and masculine angles.

Inside, the Sportage gets a major upgrade with standard dual 12.3-inch digital displays that curve towards the driver. The cabin has been redesigned to create a wider and lower feel, with improved outward visibility. The awkward vent brackets from the previous model have been replaced with a sleek horizontal line that splits the upper and lower dash. The dual-function climate panel seamlessly switches between climate controls and touchscreen menu buttons, making it easier to operate while driving.

The 2026 Kia Sportage offers three powertrain options: a 187-hp inline-4 with an 8-speed automatic transmission, a 1.6-liter turbo-4 hybrid with 231 hp and a 6-speed automatic, and a plug-in hybrid with a combined 268 hp. The hybrid models offer excellent fuel efficiency, with the standard hybrid achieving a combined 43 mpg rating and the plug-in hybrid providing a 268-hp combined rating with standard all-wheel drive.

The Sportage continues to offer a spacious interior, with room for five adults and ample rear legroom. The cargo space can be expanded by folding down the 60:40-split rear seats, providing up to 74 cubic feet of storage space. Safety features include automatic emergency braking, active lane control, and automatic high-beam LED headlights. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, a hands-free driving system, and a surround-view camera system.

Pricing for the 2026 Kia Sportage has not been announced yet, but it is expected to start at around $28,565 for the base LX model with front-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line X-Line Prestige plug-in hybrid model is expected to be priced at around $45,000. The Sportage offers a good standard feature set, including keyless entry and start, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The 2026 Kia Sportage is manufactured in either West Point, Georgia, or South Korea, depending on the configuration. With its updated design, improved features, and competitive pricing, the Sportage is a strong contender in the compact crossover segment for 2026.
