Hyundai Motor Company recently signed a significant agreement with the Ulsan City government in South Korea and the Guangzhou government in China to advance the development of a hydrogen ecosystem. The “Hyundai Motor-Ulsan City-Guangzhou City Hydrogen Ecosystem Joint Cooperation Promotion Agreement” was officially signed in Guangzhou, China, marking a pivotal moment in the promotion of sustainable hydrogen energy.

As part of the agreement, the three parties have committed to establishing a “hydrogen industry council” that will convene quarterly to drive collaboration in various aspects of hydrogen energy production, supply, and utilization. The council will serve as a platform for fostering partnerships, conducting joint research projects, and enhancing hydrogen technology competitiveness.

Ulsan, recognized by the South Korean government as a key player in the country’s hydrogen ecosystem development, will receive support from Hyundai Motor to bolster its efforts. The automaker also aims to assist Ulsan and Guangzhou in solidifying their positions as hydrogen-friendly cities, paving the way for a sustainable future.

During the signing event, Hyundai Motor’s CEO, Jang Jae-hoon, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing hydrogen technology. He highlighted Hyundai’s achievement in mass-producing the world’s first hydrogen electric vehicle at the Ulsan plant and expressed optimism about the collaboration with Ulsan City to expand hydrogen infrastructure and mobility projects.

Furthermore, Jang Jae-hoon underscored the significance of the Chinese market in the global hydrogen electric vehicle landscape. He noted Guangzhou as the location of Hyundai Motor’s sole overseas hydrogen fuel cell system production base and outlined the company’s role in connecting Ulsan and Guangzhou to foster their growth as prominent hydrogen cities on a global scale.

The agreement signifies a strategic partnership aimed at driving innovation, sustainability, and environmental stewardship in the automotive industry. By leveraging hydrogen technology and fostering collaboration between industry and academia, Hyundai Motor, Ulsan City, and Guangzhou City are poised to spearhead the development of a robust hydrogen ecosystem that will contribute to a cleaner, greener future for all.
