The New BMW iX xDrive60: Efficiency and Performance Improvements

BMW claims that the new iX xDrive60 boasts a 10% improvement in efficiency and increased performance compared to its predecessor. The model designations have been updated to align with the i5 saloon, with the xDrive60 replacing the pre-facelift xDrive50 as the mid-spec model. The upcoming iX M60 will feature an even higher number designation. Despite the changes, BMW assures us not to dwell too much on the new naming system.

Previously, the xDrive50 had an official range of 391 miles. With a 10% increase in efficiency, the new xDrive60 is expected to offer around 430 miles of range, a significant improvement for drivers.

BMW has made several enhancements to the iX xDrive60, including new hydraulic rear axle bearings and ‘friction-optimised’ wheel bearings to improve dynamics and ride comfort. The vehicle has also undergone weight reduction measures, along with the introduction of new tires with reduced rolling resistance. Suspension tuning has been tailored to each model level, with the option for air suspension with variable damping.

Although the dashboard of the test car was mostly concealed, one notable feature was the round M Sport steering wheel. This option will now be available on all models for those who prefer it over the hexagonal version.
