Wuling has recently announced the opening of reservations for the 5-door Hongguang Mini EV, which is actually a five-door hatchback despite being officially referred to as a 4-door car. This new model is the second generation of the popular Mini EV and is built on the new Tianyu S platform. It will be available in both 3 and 5-door versions, with the previous generation selling over 1.4 million units since its introduction in 2020.
To encourage preorders, Wuling is offering gifts valued at 10,000 yuan (1,400 USD) for orders placed, including a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain and a 3.5 kW charging pile. The new Mini EV boasts dimensions of 3256, 1510, and 1578 mm (l/w/h) with a wheelbase of 2190 mm, making it larger than its predecessor. Both versions share the same dimensions and feature 13-inch wheels.
The interior of the Mini EV has been upgraded with a new caramel cream color scheme, offering a more spacious cabin. The car now includes an infotainment screen mounted on top of the dashboard, enhancing the overall driving experience. The exterior is available in three ‘fantasy high definition’ colors: puffed blue, bubble green, and sweet coffee, achieved through a 7-layer coating process for a color change effect.
Powering the second-generation Mini EV is a TZ155XZ230 electric motor with a maximum output of 30 kW and a 16.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, providing a CLTC range of 205 km. The top speed is capped at 100 km/h, and the car features a more rounded design compared to its predecessors.
Wuling is a joint venture between SAIC, General Motors, and Wuling, with SAIC holding the controlling share. The second-generation Hongguang Mini EV represents a significant upgrade in design and technology, offering a more spacious and stylish option for electric vehicle enthusiasts.
