BYD’s Xi’an plant is currently operating at full capacity, with four assembly lines producing 4,000 to 4,400 vehicles per day. This milestone achievement has enabled the plant to surpass 1 million vehicles in annual production for the first time, marking a significant milestone for the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker.
Located in Shaanxi province, BYD’s Xi’an plant is the company’s largest production base in China. With operations spanning over 20 years, the plant has become a key player in BYD’s overall production strategy. The plant’s success can be attributed to its diverse businesses, including NEVs, components, consumer electronics, rail transportation, power batteries, and auto finance.
The recent expansion of BYD’s parts and components project in Xi’an has further enhanced the plant’s production capacity. With the addition of new assembly lines, the plant is now capable of producing a record number of vehicles on a daily basis.
In addition to the Xi’an plant, BYD operates nine major auto production bases across China, including facilities in Shenzhen, Changsha, Changzhou, Hefei, Fuzhou, Jinan, Zhengzhou, and Xiangyang. This extensive network of production facilities underscores BYD’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for NEVs in the Chinese market.
In 2022, Xi’an emerged as a leading hub for NEV production in China, surpassing Shanghai to become the city with the highest number of NEVs produced. BYD’s Xi’an plant played a significant role in this achievement, contributing nearly 98 percent of the NEVs produced in the city.
Looking ahead, BYD is on track to achieve record-breaking sales of over 4 million vehicles in 2024. This projection is supported by the company’s strong performance in the NEV market, with sales reaching 506,804 units in November alone.
With a proven track record of success and a strong presence in the Chinese auto industry, BYD is poised to continue its growth trajectory in the coming years. By leveraging its production capabilities and expanding its market reach, the company is well-positioned to remain a key player in the rapidly evolving NEV market.
