Hyundai is gearing up to launch an XRT trim for its highly anticipated IONIQ 9, the brand’s first three-row electric SUV. The latest spy photos reveal rugged new design elements that suggest an off-road upgrade for the sleek electric vehicle.

The IONIQ 9 made its debut at the LA Auto Show last month, promising to redefine EV mobility with its spacious interior and stylish Aerosthetic design. Measuring in at 199.2″ long, 78″ wide, and 70.5″ tall, the IONIQ 9 is slightly smaller than competitors like the Rivian R1S but packs a punch with its cutting-edge features.

Inside, the IONIQ 9 boasts dual 12.3″ infotainment and driver cluster screens, creating a panoramic display for passengers to enjoy. The first and second-row seats are fully reclined, offering a lounge-like experience with leg rests for added comfort.

Recent sightings of the IONIQ 9 out in public have sparked rumors of a new XRT trim in the works. The spy photos, courtesy of NewCarScoops, showcase all-terrain tires, a tow wrench on the front bumper, and a beefed-up suspension system, hinting at an off-road-ready model in the works.

Hyundai’s Head of Design, Simon Loasby, hinted at the possibility of an XRT trim during the IONIQ 9 reveal event, mentioning that the company is working on distinct projects like the N and XRT models. This upgrade follows in the footsteps of the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 XRT, which features exclusive design elements and a starting price of $55,400 with an estimated EPA range of 259 miles.

With a massive 110.3 kWh battery pack, the IONIQ 9 is expected to have an EPA range of 335 miles and offers different trim levels with varying performance capabilities. The electric SUV is set to launch in the US and Korea in the first half of 2025, with plans to expand to other global markets like Europe and India.
