Toyota’s $10,000 Pickup Spawned a Cheap Three-Row SUV. We Want It

A year ago, Toyota unveiled the Hilux Champ—a versatile truck designed for the Asian market. Known as the Rangga or Tamaraw in some regions, this customizable chassis-cab rig has now been transformed into a seven-seat SUV by a company called New Armada in Indonesia.

The Hilux Rangga SUV features a rear cabin with two additional rows of seats, allowing for a total of seven passengers. The design seamlessly integrates with the boxy cab of the truck, giving it a cohesive and factory-finished look. The interior layout includes three seats in the middle row and two in the back, although space may be a bit tight due to the compact dimensions of the vehicle.

Powering the Hilux Rangga SUV are gasoline and diesel engine options, with the diesel engine producing 148 horsepower. While the rear-wheel drive configuration is standard, enthusiasts will appreciate the availability of a five-speed manual transmission. For a more comfortable drive, a six-speed automatic transmission is also offered.

Although New Armada is responsible for the SUV conversion, Toyota will distribute the Hilux Rangga SUV through its dealership network in Indonesia. The vehicle is set to go on sale in 2025, offering a unique and practical option for families and businesses in the region.
