Lexus Reportedly Confirms Shanghai Production, Targeting 2027 for New Electric Vehicles

Toyota Motor Corporation has reportedly finalized plans to establish a new electric vehicle (EV) factory in Shanghai, dedicated to producing Lexus-branded models. The factory, set to begin operations around 2027 and targeting the Chinese market, will be fully owned by Toyota. While sources have indicated that land has already been secured for the facility, Lexus China has refrained from confirming the news, stating that it is unofficial information.

Speculations about Lexus localizing production in China first arose during negotiations for Toyota’s Shanghai plant earlier this year. Reports suggest that Lexus aims to achieve a localization rate of over 95% for parts used in its vehicles, showcasing a strong commitment to the Chinese market.

Earlier this year at the Beijing Auto Show, Lexus unveiled two futuristic concept models: the LF-ZC and LF-ZL. These concepts serve as a preview of Lexus’ next-generation EV lineup, with production versions expected to be released in 2026. These models feature innovative designs and immersive driving experiences, offering a glimpse into Lexus’ vision for a more advanced future in the EV market.

The rumored Shanghai plant could signify a significant milestone for Lexus as the brand continues to evolve and meet the growing demand for premium electric vehicles in China. With bold designs and a focus on cutting-edge technology, Lexus is positioning itself to cater to the evolving needs of the market.

In conclusion, the establishment of the new EV factory in Shanghai by Toyota for producing Lexus-branded models signals a strategic move to tap into the thriving Chinese market. With a focus on localization and innovation, Lexus is poised to make a mark in the electric vehicle industry with its upcoming lineup of advanced models.
