Contargo adds 20 Mercedes eActros 600 electric semis to fleet

European logistics company Contargo has recently added twenty of Mercedes’ new eActros 600 battery electric semi trucks to its delivery fleet, marking a significant step towards zero-emission shipping in Germany’s hinterland.

The eActros 600 boasts an impressive range of over 300 miles, making it ideal for long-haul trucking in Europe. Following its production launch at Mercedes’ Wörth plant in Bavaria, Contargo has become the first customer to receive these cutting-edge electric trucks.

With the addition of these twenty eActros 600 trucks, Contargo’s electric truck fleet now totals 60 vehicles, with plans to increase to 90 in the near future. Mercedes has also announced plans to deliver fifty of these electric semi trucks to German shipping companies by the end of 2024.

The acquisition of Contargo’s 20 eActros 600 trucks was made possible in part by funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport as part of a broader initiative to replace 86 diesel-engined commercial vehicles with more environmentally friendly alternatives. The funding was coordinated by NOW GmbH and approved by the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility.

This move by Contargo reflects a growing trend towards sustainable transportation solutions in the logistics industry. As electric semi trucks continue to prove their reliability and efficiency, more companies are expected to follow suit in transitioning to electric fleets.

In the United States and abroad, electric semi trucks are already racking up millions of miles, showcasing the viability of this technology for long-haul transportation. As more pilot programs demonstrate success, the industry is likely to see a surge in orders for battery electric trucks, leading to a significant reduction in diesel consumption and carbon emissions.

The future looks promising for the electrification of the transportation sector, with companies like Contargo leading the way towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.
