Chinese power battery giant CATL and FAW Jiefang, the truck making subsidiary of China’s FAW Group, have joined forces to accelerate the electrification of commercial vehicles. The collaboration aims to drive product development and business model innovation in the commercial vehicle transportation industry.

The agreement was signed in Ningde, Fujian province, where CATL is headquartered, with Robin Zeng, chairman and CEO of CATL, and Li Sheng, chairman of FAW Jiefang, in attendance. The partnership will focus on advancing new energy commercial vehicles, leveraging the companies’ expertise and resources to propel growth in the sector.

FAW Jiefang, a longstanding commercial vehicle manufacturer, is dedicated to pioneering green and intelligent transportation solutions. With a strong focus on new energy and smart connectivity, the company aims to lead the market in eco-friendly and innovative transportation solutions.

The shift towards electrification in the commercial vehicle transportation industry is gaining momentum, driven by carbon peak and carbon neutral targets. In China, sales of new energy commercial vehicles have seen a significant increase, reaching 462,000 units between January and November 2024, marking a 31.1 percent year-on-year growth.

CATL’s commitment to the commercial vehicle sector is evident through the launch of its Tectrans commercial vehicle battery brand and the introduction of specialized batteries for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. By collaborating with FAW Jiefang, CATL aims to further accelerate the development and adoption of commercial vehicle battery technology, driving the electrification of the industry.

The partnership between CATL and FAW Jiefang signifies a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future for commercial vehicle transportation. By combining their expertise and resources, the two companies are poised to lead the charge in advancing new energy solutions in the sector.
