Several car companies have stepped up to help in the relief efforts for the recent earthquake in Tibet. Nio, BYD, and Li Auto have all made generous donations to support the affected areas.
Nio announced a donation of RMB 1 million, along with the Nio Users Foundation, to provide emergency relief supplies and aid in post-disaster reconstruction. Despite being a loss-making company, Nio is committed to assisting those in need during this crisis.
The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.8, struck Dingri county in Tibet, resulting in the tragic loss of 126 lives, injuring 188 people, and causing the collapse of 3,609 homes. The severity of the situation prompted Li Auto to donate RMB 5 million to the China Charity Federation for relief and reconstruction efforts.
BYD, a leading new energy vehicle maker, also contributed RMB 10 million through the BYD Charity Foundation for emergency relief and reconstruction in the affected areas. The company reported a net income of RMB 11.61 billion in the third quarter, showcasing its strong financial position to support such initiatives.
Xpeng, Great Wall Motor, GAC Group, and Xiaomi Public Welfare Foundation have also made significant donations to aid in earthquake relief efforts. Xpeng donated RMB 1 million to the Guangzhou Charity Association, while Great Wall Motor, GAC Group, and Xiaomi Public Welfare Foundation collectively donated RMB 10 million towards the cause.
