BYD, a prominent Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has recently unveiled the Sealion 7 in India, previously known as the Sealion 07. This electric SUV made its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi on January 18 and is now available for booking, with deliveries set to commence in March. The Sealion 7 marks BYD’s fourth model introduction in the Indian market, following the eMax 7, Seal, and Atto 3 (known as the Yuan Plus in China).
The Sealion 7 is offered in two variants in India – Premium and Performance. The Premium model is a single-motor rear-wheel drive version, while the Performance model boasts a dual-motor all-wheel drive configuration. Measuring 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,620 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, the Sealion 7 promises a spacious and comfortable ride for passengers.
The Premium variant of the Sealion 7 is equipped with an electric motor delivering a peak power of 230 kW and peak torque of 380 Nm, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. On the other hand, the Performance variant features an additional front motor with 160 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of peak torque. The combined powertrain output for the dual-motor variant is an impressive 390 kW with 690 Nm of peak torque, allowing for a swift acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Both variants of the Sealion 7 are powered by BYD’s blade batteries utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, boasting a capacity of 82.56 kWh. The Premium model offers an NEDC range of 567 kilometers, while the Performance version provides a range of 542 kilometers on a single charge.
In addition to the Sealion 7, BYD also presented the Song Plus DM-i, rebranded as the Sealion 6, and the Yangwang U8 off-road SUV in India. The Sealion 6 is BYD’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle showcased in India, featuring the DM-i technology that offers an impressive range of 1,092 kilometers on a full charge and tank.
BYD aims to expand its dealership network in India to 40 locations by January 2025, demonstrating the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Indian market. With the introduction of the Sealion 7 and other innovative models, BYD continues to drive the evolution of electric mobility and sustainable transportation solutions globally.
