Southern Company, in collaboration with Ford Pro, has launched a six-month pilot program aimed at showcasing the benefits of electric vehicle (EV) adoption in commercial fleets. The program will involve the integration of over 200 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks into Southern Company’s existing vehicle fleet. This initiative seeks to address the perceived barriers to EV adoption by demonstrating the transformative potential of transitioning to electric vehicles.

One of the key aspects of the pilot program is to evaluate the impact of cost-effective charging within a fleet environment. By leveraging pricing signals and demand response strategies, the program aims to demonstrate the efficiency of using established charging depots for electric vehicles. This will not only help in comparing the cost-savings of EVs versus internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles but also explore the use of software to automate charging schedules. By optimizing charging times to minimize electricity costs and reduce strain on the electric grid, customers can benefit from efficient and sustainable charging solutions.

Tom Canada, a senior account manager at Southern Company leading the fleet electrification efforts, provides insights into the objectives and outcomes of the pilot program. Through this initiative, Southern Company aims to showcase the benefits of EV adoption in commercial fleets and drive awareness about the potential cost savings and environmental impact of transitioning to electric vehicles.

For those who prefer listening to podcasts, audio-only versions of the program are available on platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, TuneIn, and other podcast players. New episodes of the program are typically recorded Monday through Thursday, with occasional bonus audio content to keep listeners informed about the latest developments in the EV industry.

By showcasing the benefits of electric vehicles and demonstrating the efficiency of charging solutions, this initiative aims to accelerate the transition to sustainable transportation options. Stay tuned for more updates and insights from Southern Company’s electrification efforts.
